Senior Associate

HCAP Partners, LLC, a provider of mezzanine debt and private equity for underserved, lower-middle market companies throughout the United States seeks a Senior Associate for our La Jolla, CA office.

This individual will conduct financial analysis for an impact investor operating a Small Business Investment Company (SBIC), and provide in-depth industry research and analysis for investments, including financial modeling.

The successful candidate will support deal sourcing and perform due diligence for investment opportunities and review, evaluate, and track potential investments. The Senior Associate role is hands-on and assists in identifying, monitoring, reporting, and assessing progress in portfolio company employee job quality improvement for existing investments.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in monitoring fund investments, deal structuring, covenant compliance, and reporting on performance of portfolio investments.

  • Support due diligence workstreams for new investments.

  • Build and stress-test financial models, including LBO models, and perform scenario and sensitivity analyses to support investment decisions.

  • Prepare and present investment materials and recommendations to internal committees and senior leadership.

  • Support HCAP deal leads in working with portfolio company executives and management teams on strategic initiatives and performance tracking post-investment.

  • Support deal sourcing through industry research and identification of potential targets.

  • Support transaction execution, including coordination with third-party advisors and overseeing closing processes.

  • Perform detailed valuation analyses for quarterly valuations.

  • Participate in preparing quarterly and annual investor reports.

  • Prepare investment memorandums for the investment committee.

  • Contribute to the firm’s investment strategy and value creation initiatives.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree preferred, in business, finance, or economics (foreign equivalent acceptable), and at least 24 months of experience working in private equity, private debt, investment banking, or commercial banking.

  • Advanced proficiency in financial modeling, LBO analysis, and valuation methodologies.

  • Strong analytical, quantitative, and communication skills—both written and verbal.

  • Experience managing multiple projects and deadlines.

  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and sound judgment.

  • Entrepreneurial mindset and interest in meaningful upward mobility.

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.
